Libitina played their final gig at Madame Jo-Jo's in London on September 21st.
An interview with the band features in Sonic Seducer's September 2006 issue. The Libitina track 'Salvation' appears on Cold Hands Seduction Vol. 62 on the Sonic Seducer cover disc for the same issue. It's out now!
We have uploaded a video of 'Shibboleth' (from 'The Shadowline') to our MySpace area. The live footage was filmed by Matthew North (All Living Fear and Corrosion) at the Whitby Gothic Weekend in April 2004.
A radio interview in which we talk to Jason X about 'Parhelion' (amongst other things!) is available for the next week on The Slab, Kerrang! Radio. Navigate down the Show Archive to get to The Slab! We also pick a couple of our favourite Libitina tracks and discuss music by other artists that we really love.
The new issue (Number 13) of Ascension Magazine also carries an interview with us.
Issue 3 of Unscene Magazine features the Libitina track 'Salvation' (taken from our new album, 'Parhelion'). We'll be doing an interview with Unscene for Issue 4, so keep your eyes out for that too!
It’s been a busy month of gigging, including a fantastic trip to Finland to play at The Lumous Festival in Tampere. Many thanks to Jyrki Witch and the rest of the Lumous crew for looking after us so well and thanks also to our audience for making it such a great gig!
We have created a band account on MySpace. Come and join us at www.myspace.com/libitinagothicpeople!
'Parhelion' was awarded album of the week by Belgian gothic/industrial/wave/electro/EBM radio show Darker Than The Bat on 14.06.06.
We will be playing two live dates in July:
We have arranged another 'Parhelion'release party, this time in Barcelona at
Reviews of our new album, 'Parhelion', are now coming out. Here's a sample of what's been said about 'Parhelion' so far:
An interview with the band appears in the new issue of InsomniaMagazine, released on July 7th. Ordering details are available on the InsomniaMagazine website.
Libitina cover Depeche Mode! We have recorded a cover version of Depeche Mode's 'Ice Machine' for Cryonica Music's 'Bright Lights, Dark Room: An electro B-side tribute to Depeche Mode' double CD. Also included is a version of 'Oberkorn (It's a small town)' by our singer Phill's new musical project, Pinion. The album will be released on July 23 and is available for pre-order now from Cryonica Music. All the details are available on the Cryonica Music website.
Our 'Parhelion' tour starts this month. The confirmed dates so far are:
We've just found an old Libitina flyer for sale on E-Bay for UKP 1.99. You can view it here. It's advertising 2001's 'Weltanschauung' album. We still have copies of this flyer, so it would seem we're sitting on a potential goldmine!
Word is coming back to us about our new album, 'Parhelion'. Ookie Spookie describe it as our best yet. You can listen to clips from all the tracks on CD Baby... and then order it from the same site! There are even special offers on buying multiple copies. Even if you don't have anyone to pass the second CD on to, we think it's worth owning two copies!
Our 'Iron Awe' remix of 'Step Down' for The Voices of Masada has just been released on Strobelight Records' 'New Dark Age Vol. 4'.
There are some more release parties for the new album, adding to the UK and Germany nights already held. Come along and join in the celebrations! CDs and other goodies will be given away at these nights, so get ready for some freebies!
'Parhelion' will be released on Friday 5th May. To celebrate the launch, Inferno are holding a masked ball at The Electric Ballroom, Camden Town, London.
A Libitina remix of 'One Drug' will appear on Audio War's new remix CD 'Under Enemy Control' (MOMT Records). Audio War is the brainchild of ex-Cubanate member Graham Rayner and K-Nitrate member Christian Weber. You can listen to all the tracks on Last FM. The CD will be released on May 22nd.
Our new album, 'Parhelion' (Libation Records LIB005CD), is scheduled for release on May 5th. A track from our new album, 'Endgame', appears on Issue 21 of Kaleidoscope. This is a different mix from the album version and is entitled 'Endgame (Zugzwang Mix)'.
Our fifth full-length CD will be released in early May. It’s entitled ‘Parhelion’ and the general opinion is that it’s the best album we’ve ever made! Angrier in sound than ‘The Shadowline’, ‘Parhelion’ features songs about ambiguity and interpretation, internal strife and civil discord. The great tradition of foreign languages is kept up, with lyrics in Latin and German. A more intimate sounding and guitar-heavier album than ‘The Shadowline’, ‘Parhelion’ marks another significant step in the evolution of Libitina's sound!
So far, we’ve arranged 3 release parties for ‘Parhelion’. These are:
April 22nd: Minuit Noir, Mannheim, Germany
We have finished mixing down our new album.. which also now has a name! Parhelion will be released in April 2006 on Libation Records. It's 12 tracks long and clocks in at over 57 minutes. We're very pleased with the way it's sounding and are very much looking forward to having it played in clubs and people's homes! It's an angrier, more guitar heavy sounding album than 'The Shadowline'.
There will be a release party for 'Parhelion' at Apocalyptic Factory in southern Germany on April 23rd.
We will be making our debut appearance in Finland on June 29th, at the Lumous Gothic Festival in Tampere.
Libitina will be playing at Gotherham II on Sunday 23rd July in Rotherham, S. Yorks. The festival features only goth/industrial bands with Yorkshire links, so we're getting back to our Sheffield roots for the weekend! More details on the Live section of our website.
The recording of our new album is now complete... we just have to mix it next month. We have finished two new mixes for compilation appearances. One of these is 'Mea Culpa (Stripped Mix)' and the other is a new song that will appear on the new album, albeit a different mix- 'Endgame (Zugzwang Mix)'. Chessplayers (and German speakers!) will know that 'Zugzwang' is the compulsion to move. It is often used in chess endgames to force a player into an inferior position when they would much rather stay in their current position, but must move in turn.
The BBC3 programme 'Pulp: The Story of Common People' will screen at 8pm on Sunday 15th January. We were filmed performing 'Gothic People' at The Devonshire Arms in Camden Town, London, and were also interviewed for this show. It should be an interesting programme... particularly as the BBC bought us our beer and we can't remember what we said! We were told by the BBC researcher that only William Shatner and ourselves have been granted permission to cover Pulp's classic. Unfortunately, William Shatner declined to appear on the programme... he was probably too busy filming cereal adverts. We must make sure we don't fall into that trap!
We will be going into Cryonica Studios again this month to continue recording and mixing our new album. We're planning to release it in April and are busy arranging live dates to promote it. More news on them as we get it!
Libitina will be playing live in Brighton on Saturday 8th April. Check out the live section of our website for more details.
Our gig in Belfast went very well... despite some problems getting there (our plane developed a technical fault just before take-off) and it coinciding with the date of George Best's funeral. Thanks to Tracey and Adrian for putting us on and thanks to a great audience... we had a great time. Photos of the gig can be seen on the Cornucopia website.
We have produced a remix for The Voices Of Masada. It's entitled 'Step Down (Iron Awe Remix)' and will feature on the forthcoming The Nomadism Vol. 2 compilation CD, to be released on Nomadism Records.
We have a new 'Gothic People' skinny fit T-shirt available via mail order. It can be seen below, being sported very nattily by Twinkle of The Ghost Of Lemora at their recent 4th birthday party gig (happy birthday Lemoras... may you have many more!):
The drums, synths, bass, and some of the rhythm guitar parts have now been recorded for our new album (we're still working on a name for it!). It's still on track for a spring release (probably late March/early April). We went into Cryonica Studios in East London on the day after our Leeds gig to start recording. The new songs are sounding very good- it's more guitar-driven than 'The Shadowline' and takes our sound on yet again. We should be getting some live dates booked to coincide with the release of the new CD.
We introduced three new songs into our live set when we played in Leeds on November 17. The new tracks were 'Duty Unbound', 'Landfill', and 'Salvation'. It was a very enjoyable evening- the new material worked well, the audience was very friendly, and we played with two great bands, The Last Dance and Zeitgeist Zero. Greetings to both bands!
The BBC will be recording a live performance of Libitina's 'Gothic People' for a programme called 'The Story of Common People' which will be aired by the BBC in November... it's an hour long programme looking at what the song means to Pulp and the impact it had on their career and on the people of Britain. We'll also be interviewed about our own slant on the song.
Our new album, as yet untitled, will be released in February/March 2006. We're booked into Cryonica Studios from November onwards, with Reza Udhin from Inertia again co-producing the CD. We'll also be filming a video to accompany the album.
'All That I Have Ever Lost' is going to be used in the UK independent film 'Dreadhead', which is currently in final production. The film is a psychological horror about memory and identity... so you can probably see where the song fits in!
You can expect more live dates to coincide with the release of the new album, but here are a couple of Libitina gigs for the end of the year:
'... any goth who picks this album up will not have buyers remorse after spinning this one. If someone loves atmospheric gothic rock that is both emotional as well as aggressive they should own this album.' (Ookie Spookie, USA)
'I highly recommend that you find this CD and buy it.' (Lithium Radio, USA).
More details are available on the live section of this site.
Personal band favourites amongst the 12 tracks are ‘Salvation’, a future dance floor classic (even if we do say so ourselves), ‘Alea Iacta Est’, widely acclaimed as the most depressing song the band have ever written, and ‘Memento Mori’ a cheerful, sing-along number about the inevitability of death! On a (slightly) more cheerful note, we have ‘Endgame’, an Eighties-tinged slab of pure goth-pop, while we get all political on you with the diatribe against the surveillance state that is ‘Panopticon’.
The album was again engineered and co-produced by Reza Udhin of Inertia and Killing Joke fame.
‘Parhelion’ will be distributed worldwide by Resurrection Records (www.resurrectionmusic.com) and will also be available from CD Baby (www.cdbaby.com) and Darkcell Digital Music (www.darkcelldigitalmusic.net).
Astrology fans might want to know that a ‘parhelion’ is a heavenly phenomenon whereby illusionary ‘mock suns’ appear in the sky next to the real sun. This is usually interpreted as a portent of doom or a sign that things must change.
Libitina goes all continental with our first European release party!

This is a masked ball to celebrate the release and should be great fun! But will we know who anyone is?
