A number of reviews of "The Shadowline" are reproduced below.

Amboss Mag, Germany.

"The Englishmen have changed singers. Something that is the beginning of the end for many other bands is a true coup for Libitina... For me, the best Libitina album by some distance."

Chain DLK, USA.

"As one of the rising goth acts of our time Libitina combines elements from the more traditional goth-rock sound with modern rock and synth elements. This album sees a bit more focus on the electronics but without losing any of the traditional goth heart... Great to listen to in your bedroom, private dungeon, or stomp on the dancefloor to. The mixing of electronics into traditional goth-rock has somewhat blurred the lines between Darkwave and Goth but it seems to be suitable when bands like Libitina can maintain the more traditional sounding elements of the Gothic genre without losing it to the coldness of electronics. Nicely done!"

Comatose Rose, Canada.

"Here is a great collage of, in simple terms, "Goth Pop". Libitina blends dreamy 80s fantasy movie synthesizer sounds with overdriven guitars, distorted bass synths, and fabulous vocal hooks. Every song on 'The Shadowline' has an irresistibly catchy chorus that you will be singing along to before the end of your inaugural listening. Lead vocals are done by Phill and Jamie; both are talented. Phill has a smooth tonal quality and Jamie has a more aggressive voice. Songs such as Valediction and Mutual Faith are very anthemic, others such as Mea Culpa and Shibboleth are truly haunting. The lyrics are well written, dealing with but not limited to undying love, life changes, and the darkness and light of the world... This is a dynamic album, great for dimly lit clubs or bedrooms."

Darker Than The Bat, Belgium.

"This third album was produced by Reza Udhin(Inertia) and features guest backing vocals by Alexys B (also Inertia). Matins opens the album as an intro followed by Dirt I Cannot Wash. Vespers is the outro to the album. Libitina's music has matured a lot. The sound structures have improved as well as the vocals and sounds. Tracks you should really discover are Mea Culpa, Lux Fiat and Valediction. This progress makes us very curious on what is to come from the hand of Libitina."

Darklife, Germany.

"3rd album for UK darkwavers Libitina, who consolidate themselves in the dark scene, showing increased maturity in their song writing and production. The subtle electronic arrangements blend very well with the trademark reverberated guitars and the melodic lines... Overall, more emphasis is given to the synthetic elements, which give the production a modern edge... Phill, who became vocalist after Peter left the band, shows good confidence and his warm tones are bound to become a trademark of the band sound... Libitina are growing strong and it looks like they have the full potential to become sort of leaders of the new UK goth scene."

Gothic Paradise, USA.

"Overall this is a great album as a whole with few complaints. The quality is really good and the way the tracks flow together make it more enjoyable to listen to in its entirety rather than picking one or two tracks out of context."

Grave Concerns, USA.

"Libitina is a solid gothic rock band that is geared for the dance floor, and for capturing your classical and romantic sides."

Hardwired Musical Mayhem, UK.

"... this is a good album - tracks such as "Dirt I Cannot Wash" and 'Colours Revealed' seem to stick in your head for ages after you've heard them - good solid Goth tunes that they are, seem to underpin the rest of the album. Given the obvious talent that is there, Libitina should build on this release."

Kaleidoscope, UK.

"The third release from Libitina sees them continue their massive strides forward with each album. A strong combination of traditional guitar goth sounds with effective darkwave beats aimed squarely at dancefloors across the genres, this is the album that sees the band really come of age. Vocal duties are mainly taken by guitarist Phill who has rich deep vocals, but their glamour bassist Jamie puts in some equally touching vocals on several tracks, whilst Alexys B from Inertia adds backing vox on a couple of songs providing further variety in their sound. Highlights are hard to pick from what is a constantly strong release, but be sure to check out the heart-stretching 'All That I Have Ever Lost' and 'Mea Culpa' although you're bound to have heard them at your local club by now! The lyrics are, as ever, thoughtful, intelligent and frequently best avoided if you like your songs naïve and happy! One of the best UK releases of 2003."
